Welcome to Our Forum On Writing, powered by Simple Machines® Forum (SMF) software!

Here is a list of topics that can guide a new user through the first few steps of joining the forum. Each topic provides a link to the Simple Machines® Forum Wiki on the subject as well as providing some information on the topic specific to this site.

  • Registration -
    To gain access to many areas of the forum you most register.
    When registering some information is required and will be checked. Falsifying information will get you banned.
    Example: If you say you are from one country but your IP is from another you will be banned.
    Registration requires a User Name and Password. Be sure you save or can remember them.
    Once you are registered you will have immediate access to the forum once you are logged in.
    Once you have made a few posts and it is determined you are not a spammer, you will have additional access.
    Spammers will be banned permanently.
     
  • Logging In -
    Once registered, users must login to access their account.
    To login simply enter your User Name and Password in the spaces provided.
    When logging in you can select how long you will stay logged in without activity by setting how long your browser cookie will last.
     
  • Profile -
    Each member has their own personal profile.
    Filling out a profile completely is not required but the more you fill out your profile, the more likely the site administrators and other members will see you as a valued forum member and less as a potential spammer
     
  • Search -
    Searching is an extremely helpful tool for finding information in posts and topics.
     
  • Posting -
    The whole point of a forum, posting allows users to express themselves.
    This forum is dedicated to the subject of writing and book publishing.

  • Bulletin Board Code (BBC) -
    Posts can be spiced up with a little BBC.

  • Personal Messages -
    Users can send personal messages to each other.
    Abusing the feature to spam other members will get you banned.
    If a dispute arises or accusations of abuse of the message system are lodged the message database can be checked to validate any charges.
     
  • Memberlist -
    The memberlist shows all the members of a forum.
    To prevent our members from being contacted by others without permission, the member list is not visible to anyone but the administrators on this site.
     
  • Calendar -
    Users can keep track of events, holidays, and birthdays with the calendar.
     
  • Features -
    Here is a list of the most popular features in SMF.
